Many existing students often ask me for details of the readings, poems and quotes I read out at the end of lessons. I spend a lot of time each week looking for inspiring and positive thoughts to share.
Starting with one of my particular favourites is this one by Melody Beattie, taken from the beautiful book Journey to the Heart. Four more lovely ones follow:
1. Map Your Own Journey
“Go on your own journey. Don’t let others hold you back; don’t hold them back.
Don’t judge their journey, and don’t let them judge yours.
Start today to follow your heart. Map out your own journey. Have the adventure of a lifetime.”
2. A quote by Mother Theresa following on from Namaste:
“Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love and contentment.”
3. Learn to Live with Unfinished Projects by Melody Beattie (taken from the book Journey to the Heart)
“Be happy now. Enjoy the creative process – the process of creating your life, yourself, and the project you’re working on – today. Don’t wait for those finishing moments to take pleasure in your work and life. Find joy all along the way.
4. I Am Already, A poem by Danna Faulds (taken from the book Soul to Soul by John Mundahl)
One flow of
Energy and breath
Connects the full
Depth and breadth
Of consciousness
There is nowhere to
Go but here, no time
But now, no why or
How or maybe… just
This knowing, simple
And complete, that I
Am already what I
Thought I had to seek.
5. An excerpt from The Great Bell Chant, by Thich Nhat Hanh
“Listening to the sound of the bell I feel the afflictions in me begin to dissolve, My mind calm, my body relaxedA smile is born on my lipsFollowing the sound of the bellMy breath brings me back to the safe island of mindfulnessIn the garden of my heart, the flowers of peace bloom beautifully.”
